Richard grew up on a dairy farm in rural Wonewoc. His father's family has lived in the Wonewoc area since the 1870s, and his mother's family has lived in the Union Center area since 1900.
He attended the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy and worked as a pharmacist for almost 50 years before retiring to his family farm in rural Wonewoc.
Richard served five years on the Dane County Board of Supervisors and has been active in many nonprofit organizations. He was Vice Chair of the Dane County Area Association on Aging, served on the Dane County Health and Human Needs Committee, and has been a part of many other agencies and boards.
He is a member of the Wonewoc Lions Club, works on the Wonewoc community garden, and has restored a large wetlands area on his farm.
Richard is committed to protecting family farms and sustainable agriculture while improving the environment and natural resources of the county. In addition, he will work to improve health services for people living with mental health issues and substance use disorders and protect seniors, people with disabilities, and kids.
He has vast healthcare and advocacy experience. His positive attitude and get-things-done approach have helped him work on many diverse projects and with a diverse mix of people. He has spent his life as a community builder and small business owner and would be honored to continue this work on the Juneau County Board of Supervisors.
I am very honored to have been selected as the 2016 Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin recipient of the Cardinal Health Generation Rx Champions Award.
This award, administered by the Alliance for Patient Medication Safety and the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations and sponsored by Cardinal Health, was established in 2011 to recognize a pharmacist that has demonstrated a commitment to the mission of substance abuse education.
The recipient, selected by Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin and nominated by community members, demonstrates a high level of community service, an impact on the profession through commitment to prescription drug abuse and misuse education that is targeted to youth, their parents and the elderly, has implemented prescription drug abuse and misuse education programs in their practice site and/or community that are informed by evidence-based research, and has participated in other professional activities.
Each state has the opportunity to present the award on an annual basis. Learn more about the Generation Rx program. I received the award on April 6th at the PSW spring conference at Monona Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin.
I have known and worked with Richard for almost 30 years. Over that time, he has been a champion and a leader in our community, both as a small business owner and advocate for quality affordable health care.
